Introducing VidyaLMS for Joomla and WordPress

Introducing VidyaLMS for Joomla and WordPress, illustrated with an open book, a lesson, a quiz and a certificate.

Some lessons need a video. Others need a worked example, a short quiz, or a piece of work you can read and respond to. If you teach online, you need room for all of them.

Today we’re introducing VidyaLMS 1.0.0, our new learning management extension for Joomla and WordPress. It brings courses, quizzes, assignments and certificates to your own website, with a place for learners to follow their progress and pick up where they left off.

There’s a free edition you can use to run courses, and an optional Pro add-on for more advanced assessment, scheduled learning and reporting.

Already using Community Quiz?

Community Quiz and VidyaLMS share some features, including quizzes, courses and certificates. The choice comes down to what you mainly want to run.

Choose Community Quiz when quizzes and exams are the centre of your Joomla site: creating assessments, organising questions, grading attempts and reviewing results.

Choose VidyaLMS when your main goal is to run an online academy, with courses, lessons, assignments and ongoing learner progress. It is available for both Joomla and WordPress, with Free and Pro editions.

If Community Quiz already does what you need, you don’t need to switch simply because VidyaLMS is available.

Build a course around what you want to teach

A course in VidyaLMS is organised into modules and lessons. You can write a reading lesson, add a video, share a downloadable resource, set a quiz or ask learners to submit an assignment. Drag lessons into the order you want, keep work in draft while you prepare it, and publish when it’s ready.

Imagine a short photography course. You might begin with a video about light, follow it with a reference sheet, and ask learners to upload a photograph of their own. You can review the image, leave feedback and ask for another attempt. A quiz can check their understanding before they move on.

That whole sequence is possible in the free edition. You decide what completing the course means: working through every lesson, finishing a set percentage, or passing the final quiz.

Give learners a clear place to continue

Coming back to a course should be straightforward. The learner dashboard shows enrolled courses and progress, while the course player keeps the lesson content and navigation together. Video lessons can resume from the saved position.

Learners use accounts on your site. Their lessons, submitted work, results and certificates belong to the same learning experience, so they have somewhere to return to after the first visit.

When someone meets the course’s completion requirements, VidyaLMS can issue a certificate automatically. Each certificate has a verification code and a public verification page, giving its recipient a way to share their achievement.

Check understanding, and make time for feedback

VidyaLMS Free includes six question types: single choice, multiple choice, true or false, fill in the blank, short answer and ordering. You can set a pass mark, limit attempts, add a time limit and choose when learners see their results.

Assignments give you space for work that needs a person’s attention. Learners can write a response or upload files; instructors can award points, explain their decision and allow a resubmission. Progress tracking and course reports help you see how the course is going.

Pro adds question types such as matching, numeric answers and image hotspots, along with drawing and recorded responses. It also adds reusable question banks and random question pools. If you teach the same subject across several courses, being able to maintain a question once and use it again can save a lot of preparation.

Sell course access through your shop

If you charge for a course, VidyaLMS connects with EasyCommerce on Joomla or WooCommerce on WordPress. Both integrations are included in VidyaLMS Free.

You set the price and configure checkout in your shop, then connect the product to a course in VidyaLMS → Settings → Commerce & access. Once payment is confirmed, VidyaLMS grants the learner access.

Your shop remains the place to manage orders, payments and refunds. Invoices and subscriptions use the features and extensions available in your shop. VidyaLMS keeps course access in step with supported order and subscription changes, while retaining the learner’s progress when access ends.

You can also offer free courses or enrol people yourself. A shop is only needed when you want to use the commerce integration.

Start with Free. Add Pro when you need it.

VidyaLMS Free includes the course builder, the five lesson types, core quizzes, assignments, progress tracking, certificates and shop integrations described above. There’s no VidyaLMS limit on the number of courses or learners, and no per-learner licence fee. You still choose hosting that suits the size of your site.

VidyaLMS Pro adds more ways to teach and assess. Alongside advanced questions and question banks, it includes cohorts, scheduled lesson releases, learning paths, reusable grading rubrics, peer review, a visual certificate designer and additional reporting options.

For example, you can bring a group through a course together, release lessons over several weeks, or arrange related courses into a learning path. You can add Pro to an existing VidyaLMS installation and keep the courses and learner progress you already have.

Pro is US$60 per year for one site or US$99 per year for five sites. Both plans include the Joomla and WordPress packages; the site allowance applies across your installations. An active plan includes Pro updates and support.

The Free and Pro comparison lists the features side by side if you’d like to look more closely.

Try it with a course you already have in mind

The best place to start is with something you know how to teach. Add a few lessons, include a question or an assignment, and work through the course as a learner. You’ll quickly get a feel for how it fits your teaching.

You can explore the demo first, or download VidyaLMS Free. On our website, sign in or create an account and complete the free checkout to get the Joomla and WordPress downloads. No payment is required.

When you’re ready to install, follow the Joomla setup guide or the WordPress setup guide.

We’d love to hear what you’re planning to teach with VidyaLMS.
